  • Beyond a Shared History: A Biosocial Perspective on Sociogenomics and Racism in Germany

    1 Introduction

    Recent advances in sociogenomicsFootnote 1 offer new opportunities to integrate genetic and epigenetic measures into research on human behaviors, health, and well-being. For example, sociogenomics researchers have identified genetic variants correlated with traits commonly investigated by social and developmental scientists, such as educational attainment, body mass index, and sexual behavior (Ganna et al. 2019; Okbay et al. 2022; Pulit et al. 2019). A catalyst for sociogenomics research has been the addition of biological measures to big-data cohort studies in the USA, UK, Netherlands, Norway, and other countries (Mills and Tropf 2020). In short, “the genetic data revolution is underway” and science is rapidly advancing (Martschenko 2022, p. 717). Now, German social science cohorts, such as the Socioeconomic Panel Study and TwinLife, have followed suit with this global tre

    About Omid Oudbashi

    I am conservation and archaeological scientist, and conservator of archaeological and historical artefacts. I hold BSc, MA and PhD in Conservation of Cultural and Historical Properties from Art University of Isfahan and now, I am fellow of International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FIIC). I usually use different analytical and investigation methods such as microscopic and chemical analysis methods and also taught different courses in academic conservation and archaeometry programs (for about 15 years).

    My research interests are:

    corrosion/conservation of ancient metals; deterioration/conservation of stone artefacts and monuments; archaeometallurgy and ancient mining; production of inorganic materials in the ancient time (glass, pigment, gemstone, etc.)

    My teaching headlines are:

    Material Science in Conservation; Analytical Methods in Conservation; Research Methods; Metal Conservation;

      A Mini-bio of David Graeber, written bygd David Himself

      I was born and raised in New York City, the child of Kenneth Graeber, a tallrik stripper (offset photolithography), originally from Kansas, who had fought with the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, and Ruth (Rubinstein) Graeber, born in Poland, a garment worker and homemaker who had been the female lead in the 1930s Labor Stage musical Pins and Needles.

      Brought up in the Penn South Co-ops in Chelsea, I attended local public schools PS 11 and IS 70, was discovered by some Maya archaeologists because of an odd hobby inom had developed of translating Maya hieroglyphics, and received a scholarship to attend a fancy boarding school for three years, Phillips Academy at Andover, before returning to state school, at SUNY Purchase, where I graduated with a BA in anthropology in 1984.

      From there inom went on to the University of Chicago. inom lived in Chicago for over a decade, apart from two years (between 1989 and 1991)
