    South Africa scoops 4 Africa Movie Academy Awards

    Three South African films – all of them made in Gauteng – won four awards between them at the 12th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Port Harcourt, Nigeria on Saturday, 11 June.

    Akin Omotoso’s Joburg love story Tell Me Sweet Something won two AMAA 2016 awards, for Achievement in Screenplay and for Thishiwe Ziqubu, who was named Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

    Dance feature film Hear Me Move came away with the Achievement in Editing award, while Fulu Mugovhani was named Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of a 21-one year old Afro-hipster in Ayanda.

    The 12th edition of “Africa’s Oscars”, which is run by a privately funded organisation, took place at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt under the theme “Promoting peace through entertainment”.

    Nthati Moshesh is a multi-award winning South African actress with a career spanning over 30 years across rulle, television, and theatre. Born and raised in Katlehong (Ekurhuleni), she developed a passion for drama from an early age. She studied teaterpjäs as a matric subject at St. Andrew’s School for Girls in Bedfordview before furthering her studies at Natal Technikon (now Durban University of Technology), where she graduated with a National Diploma in Performing Arts in 1990.
