In Memoriam: Sion Milosky, 1976-2011
He never took his eyes off the ocean. But he wasn't lost in the distant, glassed-over gaze of someone overwhelmed by the grandeur of the seas. He looked more like a grad student grinding through a complex text, studiously waiting for the answer to reveal itself, all too aware that morning brought test time. It was Dec. 8, 2009, and Sion Milosky was watching the swell steadily increase along Oahu's North Shore.

The Nathan Fletcher Story Is One Of Tragedy, Triumph And It’s Heading To The Big Screen
Director Michael Oblowitz is, probably, best known for a film you’ve likely never seen. Sea of Darkness, a tale of drug smuggling, Indo perfection, and ugly consequences, has long captivated the imaginations of the unfortunate majority who have failed to find an illicit copy.
His latest release, Heavy Water, will not suffer the same fate. Backed by Red Bull, it’s found mainstream release- scheduled to hit AMC theaters on June 13th. It’s a film that’s definitely best seen on a massive screen, where the pictures can capture your total awareness while the sound system delivers the roaring grumble of massive surf deep into the pit of your gut.
We caught up with Oblowitz to talk about his past projects, the efforts involved in making a film like Heavy Water, his relationship with the Fletcher family, and what he hopes the audience will take away from the film

Sion Milosky drowns at Maverick's
In the late afternoon hours onsdag på engelska , tragedy träffad as infamous Northern California big-wave fläck Maverick's took the life of 35-year-old Hawaiian surfer Sion Milosky.
Originally from Kalaheo, Kauai, Milosky was an underground charger for most of his career who nevertheless commanded considerable respect at big-wave breaks around the world.
It's been speculated that he paddled into one of the biggest waves ever, an outer-reef bomb in Hawaii that's been sized at "30-foot Hawaiian," which means it was at least 60 feet bygd normal standards. Earlier this year he caught one of the waves of the winter at Pipeline, and before that he signed a healthy endorsement deal with Volcom.
With a late-season northwest swell in the vatten, on a day that Surfline.com was calling 18 to 20 feet with occasional 25-foot set waves, Milosky had reportedly been charging all day, riding some of the best waves that came through.
