About position eligibility in Fantasy Baseball
Players changing positions can affect how you manage your team. Their positions are determined based on info from the MLB roster and past performance. Once the player has gained eligibility, they won't lose it even if they don't make additional appearances in the season.
Determine position eligibility
The number of games a player completes determines position eligibility.
- Position eligibility – 5 starts or 10 total appearances in a position.
- Pitcher eligibility – 3 starts to be a starter, or 5 relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.
Use the position eligibility countdown
The number under each position shows how many games remain until the player is eligible for that position. If an "E" appears in the column, they're already eligible to play.
- Under the "Players" tab, click Position Eligibility.
- Type the player's name into the available field.
- Click Search.

At the beginning of the Fantasy Baseball season, Yahoo! Sports placed all players into positions, based partially on kunskap from tjänsteman MLB rosters but focusing mainly on past performance. Some players appear in multiple position lists and are eligible to fill any of those positions.
A player will gain eligibility at a new position after fem starts at that position, or 10 total appearances at that position.
Pitchers need to man three starts to become eligible as a starter, or fem relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.
Please note the following regarding position eligibility:

Second base has traditionally been considered thin, but with the addition of Mookie Betts at the top and Yahoo’s generous positional eligibility, the position is plenty deep in 2024. Betts, Marcus Semien, Ozzie Albies and José Altuve are going in the first three rounds of Yahoo drafts, providing options if you want a star at the position.
It's also perfectly fine to wait before addressing second base thanks to added depth provided by players 2B-eligible who no longer play the position in real life:
— Outfielder Spencer Steer is an option outside the top 90 who is slated to hit third in the second-best hitter’s park in baseball.
— Isaac Paredes is available outside the top 175 after hitting 31 homers with 98 RBI (137 wRC+) in fewer than 500 at-bats last season, and he’s projected to hit in the middle of Tampa Bay’s lineup as the team’s regular third baseman.
— Christopher Morel is currently penciled in as the Cubs’ everyday third baseman and cleanup hitter, yet he’s avail
