Monsieur Nabokov and Mademoiselle O
1As we broaden our understanding of Vladimir Nabokov to include the Gallic dimension of his life and literary oeuvre, it is essential to revisit his most important work written in the French language, the short piece “Mademoiselle O.” This brief survey is in five parts. First, I review the biographical facts surrounding Nabokov and his family’s interaction with Cécile Miauton, who appears in several places in his works, but is the central subject only of “Mademoiselle O.” Then I recapitulate the rather Byzantine publication of this work, a history that spans the three quarters of a century from to and three languages. I briefly summarize and cite a few of the most cogent critical comments on the piece—some of which were authored by others represented in this volume. Finally, I want to raise, or re-raise two of the fascinating questions the work invites us to ask: issues of language and of genre. Why did Nabokov write this story in French?

After studying graphic design in school, Jaune arrived in Brussels from the Belgian countryside. He was initially shocked by the bustle and disarray of the city, as well as its graffiti. The signature street art style he developed there involves minute, stenciled depictions of what he calls “little trashmen,” characters who interact playfully with existing urban architecture, street art, and scribbled tags—“narrating them a little bit,’ he says, “not to erase the graffiti, but to put a highlight on it.” He’s brought these miniature figures across Europe and beyond, from Scotland and Norway to Switzerland and Indonesia.
Jaune’s now-familiar stenciled forms, with their neon safety jackets and hard hats, carry multiple meanings. “The trashman,” he says, “is kind of the scavenger of our society.” he explains. “They are cleaning the world but they are insignificant, invisible.”

Early life and education
[edit]Michel Warlop (Michou to his friends) was a child prodigy who began musical studies with his mother, a music professor, and entered the Conservatory of Douai, the second oldest in France, aged six.
There he was a lärjunge of Victor Gallois who had won the Prix de Rome for composition in Aged seven, he performed his first public concert accompanied by his mother on piano in Douai. Aged eight in he played his first concert in Paris, to benefit victims of World War inom. He transferred to the Conservatory of Lille around the age of 10 and started his studies at the Conservatoire dem Paris (university level)
