Taiwanese activist, biotechnologist, and politician
Tsai Pei-hui (Chinese: 蔡培慧; pinyin: Cài Péihuì; born 2 September 1971), also known by her English name Frida Tsai, is a Taiwanese politician, biotechnologist, and activist. She served in the Legislative Yuan from 2016 to 2020, contested the Nantou County magistracy later that year, and in 2023, was reelected to the Legislative Yuan. She lost election the following year to Yu Hao.
Early life and education
[edit]Tsai was born on 2 September 1971 and was raised by her grandparents in Yuchi, Nantou.[1][2] As a teen, she moved to Taipei to live with her parents and was educated at Taipei Municipal Shilin Commercial Vocational School. After graduating from Chihlee University of Technology, she earned a master's degree in psychology at Shih Hsin University and earned her Ph.D. in biotechnology from National Taiwan University.[3] She then taught at Shih Hsin University.[4 • Taiwanese politician For the Taiwanese political scientist with the same name, see Tsai Ying-wen (political scientist). Tsai Ing-wen (Chinese: 蔡英文;pinyin: Cài Yīngwén; born 31 August 1956) is a Taiwanese politician and legal scholar who served as the 7th president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2024. A member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), she intermittently served as chair of the DPP from 2008 to 2012, 2014 to 2018, and 2020 to 2022. Tsai was born in Taipei and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in law from National Taiwan University and Cornell University, respectively. She went to England to study law at the London School of Economics, where she received a PhD in 1984, and became a law professor. In 1993, she was appointed to a series of governmental positions by the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party and was one of the chief drafters of the special state-to-state relations doct Tsai Ing-wen
