    After years of fans witnessing Vince Neil's highest highs and lowest lows, the legendary singer is pulling the curtain back and telling his side of the story.

    Sunday will mark the premiere of Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil: My Story, a REELZ documentary where Neil details his life story from his perspective for the first time. In the nearly two-hour film, the '80s band's lead vocalist details his rise to fame, his exit from the band and the tragedies he's faced in between.

    "It's basically just my life story," Neil, 61, tells PEOPLE. "There's a lot of documentaries out there, and a lot of things that people form an opinion of me [on], and haven't really ever heard from me."

    He continued, "And now, I could dispel all those rumors. People think that they know me, but they don't."

    Vincent Neil Wharton (born February 8, 1961 in Hollywood, California), better known as Vince Neil is the lead singer for American heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Neil was born to Odie and Shirley Wharton in 1961 in Southern California. During the 1960s, his family moved around, from Inglewood, California to Watts, before finally settling in Compton, California.

    Growing up in Compton was sometimes tough, he once even had his face and chin slashed by a gang member.     Talks of a Mötley Crüe biopic began as early as 2006, when Paramount Pictures and MTV Films purchased the rights to the book The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band by the band and Neil Strauss; however, the project then languished in development hell for over a decade, going through numerous directors and cast members before Netflix purchased the rights in March 2017. Filming began around New Orleans in February 2018.
