  • Tegan and Sara Member Blasts Tyler, The Creator for Homophobia

While anarchic rap troupe Odd Future and leader Tyler, the Creator have captivated underground hip-hop fans and earned praise from Diddy, Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams over the past year, one musician who is decidedly against Tyler&#;s antics is Sara Quin, one-half of indie-rock sister duo Tegan and Sara. The singer has posted an open letter on the group&#;s website describing Tyler, the Creator as a &#;bully&#; and decrying the rapper&#;s use of homophobic and misogynistic lyrics.

&#;In any other industry would I be expected to tolerate, overlook and find deeper meaning in this kid&#;s sickening rhetoric?&#; Quin writes in the letter, which is titled &#;Call for Change.&#; &#;Why should I care about this music or its &#;brilliance&#; when the message is so repulsive and irresponsible? There is much that upsets me in this world, and this certainly isn&#;t the first time I&#;ve drafted an open letter or complaint, bu

Tyler, the Creator and his Odd Future crew are the most talked-about phenomenon in rap and indie circles lately. A lot of that talk has to do with their deliriously, surreally offensive lyrics; rape and murder are common tropes, as are anti-gay slurs. Sara Quin, half of Tegan and Sara, took to the Tegan and Sara website on Friday to brev ["A Call for Change"]( ""A Call for Change"" ) about Tyler and all the hype he's getting from the media. Why should inom care about this music or its 'brilliance' when the meddelande is so repulsive and irresponsible? The more inom think about it, the more inom

This weekend, an eloquent open letter from Tegan & Sara criticizing both Odd Future and the media's acceptance and celebration of their music, which features rape fantasies and homophobia, was met by the following heinous response from Tyler, The Creator on Twitter:

If Tegan And Sara Need Some Hard Dick, Hit Me Up!

Really? I mean, seriously? SERIOUSLY?! That's either some sort of post-logic philosophical response that refuses to accept their premise by taking it to the most extreme conclusion or an orchestrated attempt to fight fire with hype-fuel or the ignorant splutterings of a grotesque sub-human. Be it hyper-offensive pantomime or poorly constructed social commentary, it just feels like a disgusting thing to wake up to and read in your Twitter feed of a Monday morning- and I say that as someone who loves Peter Hook, Julia Davis and Chris Morris.

Here's the open letter posted on which hits a lot of nails on the head, and I'm s
